George Orwell's Diaries

George Orwell's diaries are being published online exactly 70 years after they were first written. They are being published a day at a time, as they were written - as a blog is written today - in fact published in 'Wordpress' which is blog. See Orwell Diaries
The domestic diaries begin on 9th August 2008 and the political diaries covering the Spanish Civil War and the War with Germany begin on 7th September. The diaries run from 1938 until 1942, so that gives us four years of reading!
:: Orwell Weblinks ... Charles' website ... Wikipedia ... BBC :: Would Orwell have been a blogger? - Robert McCrum, The Observer Sunday 2nd September 2007. :: Another blogged diary ... The Pepys diaries - 1 January 1660 aka 1 January 2003.

The Great War Archive

:: The First World War Poetry Digital Archive, from Oxford University, includes materials about Wilfred Owen, Isaac Rosenberg, Roland Leighton, Robert Graves, Edward Thomas and Vera Brittain and now (hooray!) David Jones. They are also developing resources and tools for learning and teaching.
The Great War Archive, sits alongside the poetry materials and brings together material wbout the First World War held by members of the public to help keep the memory alive of the sacrifices made during World War One. The full collection was made available free of charge via the Web on the 11th November 2008, the 90th anniversary of the Armistice.
All the materials can be used for education use in schools - we checked ... The Terms and conditions sound a bit as though it's just for HE, but we have checked and it is OK for schools in the UK as well. Schools outside UK should, perhaps, check for themsleves. But please read their terms and conditions and the context information to maintain the provenance of the materials and develop good practice in using original materials.
:: Additional image resources are being collected through a Flickr Group http://www.flickr.com/groups/greatwararchive/ :: More on Wilfred Owen and poetry copyright in Shapesoftime at Poetry online
