Amongst the resources are old favourites such as 'Oliver Twist’ and ‘Beowulf’. The new NEN website and gateway

The New Film Education NEN gateway has been created to present Film Education's resources to primary and secondary schools in an easily navigatable website dedicated to school users.
Greg Hill, Director SEGfL, says: "The NEN is delighted to be working in partnership with Film Education. Good and authoritative multimedia resources, enabled by education broadband, are an essential feature of the National Education Network. SEGfL is happy to have played a part in facilitating this engaging enhancement to the curriculum."
The Film Education on the NEN initiative has been managed by SEGfL as part of their contribution to the NEN. In collaboration with JANET, SEGfL provides the hosting facility and interconnections to the other education networks throughout the UK.
Ian Wall, Founder and Managing Director Film Education, says: "If the feedback we receive from teachers is anything to go by, film still stands alone. Especially with the incredible pace of technological developments in recent years, how often does anyone sit still and focus on one thing for two full hours? That's part of the magic of film. Those two hours can seem like minutes. And they stay in the mind of the audience. "We're proud to have produced this gateway for the NEN with the help of the South East Grid for Learning and JANET. Please contact us with any suggestions or feedback."
Film Education works directly with the distributors of the films to develop the resources, and clear copyright permissions for the video clips, often on an exclusive basis.
Mark Kermode, a patron of Film Education, says: "Now, more than ever, it is crucial to foster and encourage a young cine-literate audience that can appreciate and enjoy challenging and innovative cinema from around the world."
Online delivery helps make resources available throughout the school - no lost or mislaid DVD problems - and much easier to update and add to already developed materials.
This is a dynamic website that brings schools new resources on a regular basis based on current film releases that engage issues and themes in the language of the day.
Delivery though the NEN will help schools obtain best quality from the streamed video and enable all teachers and pupils to have access at any time. Access is also available at home for pupils, parents and carers and teachers over the WWW.
The Film Education NEN service has support for teachers and news of other activities for schools and CPD events such as the ever-popular National Film Week and the CP3 Conference as they occur during the year.
Film Education resources will work alongside other NEN resources such as Unlocking the Archives, Screenonline and Audio Network to give schools multiple opportunities to address many subjects, 'themes' and media literacy across the curriculum with confidence.
The resources will fit well with the new developments in both Primary and Secondary in all the four UK education curriculums.
The resources are designed for specific stages/ages/exams from Key Stage 2 through to 'A' level, though in some cases they may find uses with other learners.
