All new British Pathé: September 2009

British Pathé have upgraded their website and the whole digitised archive to give streamed viewing of all films and a faster, easier download process for schools in subscribing RBC, LA or national networks using broadband authentication tthrough the NEN to gain access to the high-resolution versions of the films and stills without charge for students and teachers to use and re-use creatively in their work. :: http://www.britishpathe.com.
The new British Pathé website now provides access to streamed versions of the newsreels over the WWW with only a small off-centre watermark. The school's licence gives access authenticated through the NEN has been extended to allow use of materials through school-authenticated VLE. Pupil work may be kept in perpetuity. There is a really useful facility - 'workspaces' - for collecting sets of films into folders and films and folders have direct links for use in VLE and websites.
British Pathé has digitised its complete archive. The resources - 3,500 hours of film and 12,000,000 stills - cover 75 years of history from 1896 until 1970 - sports, games, food, and drink, science and technology, humour, transport, trade and Industry, social issues, religion, lifestyle and culture, politics, news, education and schools, animals and the living world - the whole universe and everything!

The sound - very strange - comes from the chosen film; an early sound - (late 1930's?) - animated cartoon about a little dog called 'Cobb' with, it seems, a predilection for chicken!
